10 ways to overcome gym anxiety!

There was a point in my life that I was genuinely intimidated by going to the gym alone.

There were lots of other guys at the gym and I was not as developed physically, the gym had a lot of crazy looking equipment that I had no idea what to do with and the other members of the gym seemed a lot more confident, louder and more qualified than me to be there!

🔴Do you find yourself avoiding the gym through fear?

🔴Do you go to the gym but cut your workouts short?

🔴Do you avoid the weights room and confine yourself to cardio?

There are few things you can do to overcome these fears:

💪🏽 Take action! Fears are in your mind, thinking about your fears will only make them greater!

💪🏽 Find perspective! Right now you may be under the impression that the gym is full of alpha men in great shape, however, you will be surprised at what a diverse range of people attend the gym! Everyone started somewhere!

💪🏽 Buddy up! Find a friend that will go with you, preferably someone who knows the ropes and can take you through a session and show you a few exercises.

💪🏽 Find exercises you are really good at and focus on them!

💪🏽Improve your confidence by getting a training plan, research the exercises before you go to the gym.

💪🏽Start off light, or use resistance machines only. From my perspective, I would rather you be comfortable, confident and avoid injury than further damage your confidence by having others judge poor form or you failing a lift!

💪🏽Find a gym that suits you! Find a gym that is quieter when you want to go, or start to train in the mornings, the only people there in the mornings are so focused on getting in and out before work, they will not have time to judge!

💪🏽Stop following social media accounts that make you feel inadequate. You are on your own unique journey, nobody has the right to judge your path.

💪🏽Find something you enjoy, if part of the anxiety you get from going to the gym is the routine you are following, sumo the routine and find a form of training that you enjoy!

💪🏽The gym staff will always be happy to help, especially family run gyms! You have invested in the membership and they are invested in keeping you there!
