I used to be one of those people that used to constantly tell people to destress. But why? 

Stress helps us progress in life but it's been given a bad rep.

Imagine a straight line, our mind and body wants to keep this line in place all the time. This is called homeostasis.

If you get hungry the line drops, a cascade of hormones are released, the nervous system is activated and we are triggered to search for food. 

Once we eat the food, the body needs to work a little so the line goes up before it returns to normal.

The reason stress gets a bad name is because most people don’t have the ability to bring themselves back to the original line. 

The reservoir to manage stress isn’t deep enough and things constantly spill over and it leaves people emotional, feeling overwhelmed and run down.

The answer isn’t to remove stress, its to build the resilience to manage it, through exercise, nourishing the body, protecting sleep and seeking solutions even when everything around you seems bleak!
