Dr Shilpa Patel, DHealthPsy, CPsychol, AFBPsS

I have always been driven by helping others and this passion has taken me on a journey into a career as a Health Psychologist. I started this journey at the University of Leicester with a BSc in Psychology, followed by an MSc in Health Psychology and subsequently a Professional Doctorate. Having qualified in 2008, I began my clinical career in the management of chronic conditions, specifically pain management. My vision has always been to help people with their health, wellbeing and performance goals to achieve successful outcomes.

As a registered Practitioner Health Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council a key part of my work is to support people to make changes to their behaviours which are impacting on their health and wellbeing. I apply a range of therapeutic approaches to suit individuals including cognitive behavioural therapy. Motivating people to change their behaviours is one of the hardest things to do but also one of the most rewarding when successful outcomes are achieved.

Alongside my clinical commitments as a Health Psychologist I am a Senior Researcher within a clinical trials unit where I am involved in designing, delivering and implement high quality trials to inform healthcare and clinical practice.

Outside of work I have two amazing boys who keep my husband and I busy. Balancing family life, health, fitness, work and everything else on top of that can be can a challenge and one that I see in many of my clients. I therefore I look forward to collaborating with LIA and helping individuals develop a balance between their psychological health and physical fitness to promote lifestyle changes to improve overall wellbeing and quality of life to enable achievement of personal goals.
